The recall preceded by a few weeks a second CFS alert about three other brands of French brie, suggesting a broader vulnerability in the soft cheese supply chain imported from France to Hong Kong's market during that period.

That two episodes of Listeria in French brie cheese occur weeks apart, although involving different importers and brands, is not necessarily evidence of a common cause, but it does describe a season of increased risk exposure for consumers of this type of cheese in the local market. Soft-paste cheeses with moldy rind share the same vulnerability profile to Listeria monocytogenes, regardless of brand or producer.

For TAAG, two Listeria alerts in imported brie cheese in the same month, although from different sources, reinforce that importers of soft-paste moldy rind cheeses should maintain their own microbiological verification program for each batch entering, rather than relying exclusively on alerts from the exporting country, given that two independent events in the same product category suggest a seasonal risk that additional control at destination could have anticipated.
