TAAG Obtains AOAC Certification Extension for Elevia 1.1, Its Rapid Salmonella Detection Kit

Elevia 1.1 is the first product of TAAG's Elevia suite, based on the AiGOR RNA detection technology. Unlike conventional PCR, which amplifies and detects DNA fragments present in both live and dead cells, this technology targets exclusively metabolically active Salmonella spp. That distinction is no small matter: it makes it possible to skip or drastically shorten the enrichment step that takes between 24 and 48 hours in traditional culture methods, since the RNA signal more directly reflects the presence of viable microorganisms in the sample at the time of analysis.

On that technological basis, the kit offers response times of just 3 hours for environmental samples and 7 hours for foods, a substantial difference compared with reference methods that usually require two or three full days between plating, incubation and confirmation. In a production setting where every hour of waiting translates into held inventory or postponed release decisions, this time reduction has a direct impact on a plant's operational efficiency, without sacrificing the ability to detect the pathogen.

The extension of the AOAC-PTM (Performance Tested Methods) certification under license number 072601 validates the kit's performance against the reference method for new matrices and uses, broadening the scope already covered by the original certification. This kind of backing is particularly relevant for quality teams that must justify, before internal audits, customers or regulatory authorities, replacing a traditional culture method with a rapid detection technology: AOAC-PTM certification is one of the most internationally recognized standards for demonstrating that an alternative method matches or exceeds the performance of the official method.

For TAAG, each expanded certification extension reduces the friction of adopting Elevia in plants that today depend on traditional culture or external laboratories to release product or validate their environmental monitoring, bringing rapid molecular detection closer to the daily operation of the food industry.
