Elevia 1.1: What Makes TAAG's Award-Winning Kit for Detecting Viable Salmonella Special

Elevia 1.1 Salmonella spp. is the first product in TAAG's Elevia suite and the kit that just won the 2026 Food Innovation Award. Behind the award is a set of capabilities designed for a specific problem: knowing quickly whether viable Salmonella is present in a plant or a product, without waiting the two or three days that culture methods usually take.

The first capability is speed. The kit delivers results in 3 hours for environmental samples and in 7 hours for food. On a production line, that means the decision to release a batch or repeat a cleaning can be made the same day rather than at the end of the week, with less inventory held while waiting for a result.

The second is what it detects. Elevia 1.1 uses RT-qPCR on the AiGOR platform and targets the RNA of Salmonella spp. Because that signal reflects metabolically active microorganisms, the assay focuses on what is alive and can skip or drastically shorten the enrichment step that takes between 24 and 48 hours in traditional culture.

The third is the breadth of matrices. TAAG's datasheet declares the kit validated in chocolate with hazelnut-type filling, chocolate with milk-type filling, chocolate bar with peanuts, hazelnut and cocoa cream, whole muscle meat, ground beef (90% lean), animal feed pellets, pasteurized liquid eggs and stainless steel surfaces. The AOAC certification has its own scope: 62% cocoa chocolate, cocoa liquor, non-fat dry milk, peanuts and stainless steel surfaces. That makes it useful for both finished product and environmental monitoring, in industries such as confectionery, dairy, egg products, fresh and processed produce, meat and poultry, pet food and animal feed, ready-to-eat foods and seafood.

The fourth is its validation. The kit holds AOAC-PTM certification, license No. 072601, an international standard that validates the performance of an alternative method against the reference method. For a quality team, that seal makes it easier to justify the move from culture to rapid molecular detection to auditors, customers or authorities.

With the recognition from THE FOOD TECH® | SUMMIT & EXPO 2026, Elevia 1.1 adds international visibility to a simple proposition: reliable results for viable Salmonella in hours, backed by a recognized certification.
