France Recalls Three Meat Products Over Salmonella on October 7: Chicken Sausages, a Marinated Chicken Dish and Natural Meat Strips

The official RappelConso portal published on October 7, 2026 three voluntary recall notices for Salmonella spp. in refrigerated meat products. The first covers merguez and chicken chipolatas, in halal and conventional versions, sold in 20-piece trays with protective atmosphere packaging or by the unit; Salmonella was detected in them and they were distributed nationwide. The second is a one-kilogram Mexican-style chicken dish, recalled over suspected Salmonella and sold in seven regions of central, western and southern France. The third is natural meat strips, in packs of two 100-gram portions, recalled for the presence of Salmonella in four regions in the north, center and west.

The notices, all voluntary and issued without a prefectoral order, ask consumers not to eat the products and to return them to the point of sale for a refund. All three are fresh or prepared meats sold refrigerated, and two of them are chicken products, the matrix most frequently associated with Salmonella in European surveillance. Marinated chicken and chicken sausages are cooked before they are eaten, but they are handled raw in the kitchen, so contamination can spread to cutting boards, hands and other foods before cooking takes effect.

Symptoms of salmonellosis are sudden-onset diarrhea, vomiting, fever and headache, appearing between 6 and 72 hours after eating the contaminated food, and they can be more severe in young children, pregnant women, immunocompromised people and older adults. If no symptoms appear in the seven days after consumption, the notice states there is no cause for concern. Cooking to 65 degrees at the center destroys the bacterium, but it does not correct the initial contamination or prevent transmission through hands, cutting boards and utensils.

For the poultry and meat sector, three recalls for the same pathogen on a single day reinforce the need for batch-level sampling of finished product and along sausage and marinating lines. TAAG's Ampliora 1.1 kit detects Salmonella spp. by real-time PCR, with raw chicken, longaniza, frozen beef patties, mortadella and surfaces among its validated matrices. The association is direct for raw chicken and fresh chicken sausages, although the notice does not describe analyses performed with the kit or specify the exact matrix of the natural strips.

Related TAAG solution

Microorganism:
Salmonella spp.
Matrix:
Raw marinated chicken, fresh chicken sausages and prepared meat
Related kit:
Ampliora 1.1 Salmonella spp. (PCR en tiempo real - Mila)

Ampliora 1.1 detects Salmonella spp., and its validated matrices include raw chicken and longaniza, equivalent to marinated chicken and fresh chicken sausages; confidence is medium because the notice does not specify the matrix of the natural strips and does not describe analyses performed with the kit.
