AFSCA Withdraws Poultry Products due to Salmonella

4 min

The AFSCA ordered two consecutive withdrawals of poultry products elaborated by a poultry company on January 9 and 13, 2026, due to possible presence of Salmonella. The repetition of the finding within a few days, involving the same manufacturer, led the authority to maintain enhanced surveillance of the establishment while continuing the source investigation.

That the same poultry product manufacturer faced two consecutive withdrawals for Salmonella within less than a week suggests that the initial finding was not an isolated event, but rather the manifestation of an underlying problem in the process —whether in the reception of raw materials, at some stage of the slaughter line, or in the environmental control of the plant— that a single withdrawal was insufficient to resolve. Poultry meat is one of the matrices with the highest historical prevalence of Salmonella worldwide, since the pathogen can colonize the bird's intestinal tract without producing visible clinical signs.

For TAAG, two consecutive withdrawals in the same week involving the same manufacturer are a signal that Salmonella control in a poultry plant is not resolved with a single adjustment after the first finding, but requires a complete review of the point of origin of contamination —slaughter line, process water, or raw material— before production resumes with real assurance of having corrected the cause, not just the symptom.
