France Recalls Seven Varieties of Paupiettes Over Listeria monocytogenes in Fifteen Departments in the North, West and Center of the Country

The official portal RappelConso published on October 10, 2026 six notices of voluntary recall of paupiettes, the stuffed and tied meat rolls typical of French cuisine, joined by a seventh published the day before. The varieties are the plain paupiette and those stuffed with goat cheese and honey, snail butter, chorizo, Provençal herbs, burger style and Orloff style. The common reason is the presence of Listeria monocytogenes. All come from the same manufacturer, are sold in trays with protective atmosphere and must be kept refrigerated.

The products were distributed in stores of several chains and in delicatessens in fifteen departments of Normandy, the center and the west of the country and the Paris region. The notices ask consumers to stop consuming the products and return them to the point of sale to obtain a refund, and each includes a contact number for the manufacturer. As all the recalls are voluntary, there was no prefectural order.

The health recommendations are the usual ones for listeriosis. Anyone who has fever, headache or muscle pain after consuming the product should consult a doctor and say that they ate it, because incubation can last up to eight weeks. Pregnant women, immunocompromised people and older adults are at higher risk, and diarrhea, nausea or vomiting sometimes also appear. That the recall extended to seven varieties in two days suggests that the finding points to the production line or the plant environment and not to a specific recipe.

This pattern is common: Listeria settles in equipment, drains and cutting surfaces, and is carried over to everything that passes through them. That is why environmental monitoring programs are as important as finished product testing. TAAG's Specio 1.4 kit detects Listeria monocytogenes by real-time PCR with melting curve and its datasheet validates it in foods and on living and inert surfaces. Packaged raw paupiette is not listed as a specific matrix, so the association is indirect: it is useful mainly for verifying surfaces and process areas.
